Simply called the "Old Cemetery", it is one of the oldest in Belgium. Used for the first time in 1796. Later in 1864 is was expanded and the 'wall' between the baptised and heathans or pagans was removed. Mostly the 19th century bourgeoisie was buried there. Until 1930 it remained the only city burial, and after that no more people were laid to rest there. It finds itself now smack in the middle of the city surrounded by a wall and is also a protected monument.
