.. Radio Kootwijk was an radiostation build in the early 1920's to create a direct communication link between Holland and its colonies in the Indies. At first it used really long radiowaves and thus needed a lot of power for generating them. Later on shorter waves were used, cutting down on power needs considerably. Most of the building therefore was also for housing the enormous generators.
