The short
version...
This site shows a collection of my photography work, that's
it. I have a broad interest when it comes to subjects. A
few years ago I developed a special interest for abandoned
and desolate factories, mines etc. I have visited many of
them and in many cases the journey took me abroad to
France, Germany or Luxembourg. Needless to say I've had fun
on these trips.
The Beginning...
First something about me. I grew up in the city of Antwerp,
Belgium. From age 13 I got my first "toy" camera and I
immediately loved taking pictures. Somewhat later I got a
small Nikon compact camera with built-in flash and zoom
lens, a simple and nice little thing, but soon after that I
wanted to know more about shutter speeds, apertures, field
of depth and all other niceties of photography. In order to
do so I kind of "confiscated" my fathers Nikkormat FTN camera. Fully manual
machine with an in-camera light meter, it was the ideal
equipment to start learning.
When I got a little older my father, after being deprived
of his old camera, bought a Nikon F801, at that time a state of
the art camera. I couldn't resist and started saving for
the same thing... Well a lot of years have passed and I
wasn't photographing all the time. While studying for my
engineering degree and at the beginning of my
professional career, my camera's stayed mostly in the
bag. It must have been beginning of 2002-2003 that I
renewed my interest in photography because by then you
could easily combine it with another hobby of mine:
computers :)
My current equipment...
In end 2002 I switched completely to digital. Before that I
used the camera's mentioned above and scanned all my slides
with a Nikon Coolpix III slidescanner which worked great
but was also cumbersome to use with large volumes. In 2003
I bought myself a Fuji Finepix S2Pro which was a great
camera and still is. Currently I also own a Nikon D2x which is my pride and joy
and I keep the S2Pro for certain family occasions and as
a backup. The D2x allows me to take great pictures, the
amount of detail and information contained in the
pictures is staggering. Of course the much smaller jpg
images you see on my website don't do this camera
justice.
For the really "quicky" snapshots I also have a Finepix F10 compact camera, small
enough to slip in any pouch. For image retouching I use
a Mac DualG5 and electron blue III reference monitor.
My latest addition to the photography bag is a Nikon D40. Very light, smallest SLR
ditigal camera in existence to date AND amazing image
quality for such a little thing... I just couldn't
resist!
Besides the camera bodies I have a battery of lenses at my
disposal, actually too many for the moment...:-)
